Deacon Tom's FarewellFinal Words at Masses, August 2-3, 2008 Last weekend, I wrote a letter to all of you, which is meant to be both a thank-you note and a final farewell notice. This letter is contained in this week’s bulletin, and I hope that you will take the bulletin home and read my words of wisdom (maybe?). Since I wrote the letter, several things have happened, and I really feel the hand of God at work in the timing of these events. First, we closed on our new home in Waterford this past Friday at 3PM. Now, it just so happens that Friday at 3PM is the most important hour in relation to Divine Mercy, for it was on Good Friday at 3PM that Our Lord gave up His life for us. Next, we set up our moving dates: August 12-15. August 15th is the Feast of Mary’s Assumption, and is now the day that the moving van will pull away from Rockland County with our worldly possessions. Finally, just as I was walking out the door this past Tuesday, I received a call from super-agent and fellow parishioner Pauline Cunningham that we had an offer on our Rockland County house that we could accept, and this honors St. Joseph, whose statue is buried beneath our front lawn, according to custom. So, you see, the Holy Family: Jesus, Mary and Joseph – have been at work, according to God’s timing, not ours. This gives me so much more meaning to the Divine Mercy phrase: Jesus I Trust in You! So, I am with you now to say an official good-bye; I hope to be with you for at least a couple of Masses next weekend also. Right now, I expect my final Mass at St. Boniface to be the vigil of the Holy Day, the Assumption of Mary, August 14th, at 7PM. Then, bright and early on Friday, August 15th, our time at St. Boniface will come to an end, even though I shall be back and forth until our Rockland County home closes, on or about September 22nd. My time at St. Boniface, both as a parishioner and as your deacon, has been unique and very special to me. I am so grateful to all of you for the many good times we have shared and for the many ministries we have worked together in the service of Our Lord and each other. Thank you so very much, and you will be in my prayers for the rest of my life. God bless you. PS: My brother-in-law lives on Mallard Circle and we will be living on Widgeon Way. Isn’t that just “ducky?” Sorry, couldn’t resist!
